ABSTRACT
The main aim of this report is to
design and construct an excellent steering system demonstrator which provide
efficient understanding of the system which helps both the teachers and the
student to learn the practical knowledge. This construction was provided to
simplify the way of understanding how the components are connected to each
other in the system and display the system being working on the vehicle. And
also identify the working principle of each and every component in the system.

CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The steering used in this construction are
different system that accompanied together to provide a teaching aid in our
workshop it helps to conduct practical activities.
Steering system; the most conventional steering
arrangement is to turn the front wheels using a hand operated steering wheel
which is positioned in the front of the driver, via the steering column, which
may contain universal joint. The steering system convert the rotation of the
steering wheel into a swiveling movement of the road wheel in such a way that
the steering wheel rim turn a long way to move the road wheel a short way. The
system allows a driver t0 use only light force to steer a heavy car.
The steering system converts the rotation of the
steering wheel into a swiveling movement of the road wheels in such a way that
the steering-wheel rim turns a long way to move the road wheels a short way.
The system allows a driver to use only light forces to steer a heavy car.
Efficient steering plays an importance part in the
safe handling of the vehicle and before considering the construction of this
assembly it will be as well to enumerate the desirable features. All vehicle
uses front wheel steering, such as cars, light and heavy duty vehicles the
driver is to be at the front cabin and irrespective of the engine position. The
front wheel should able to point the direction for free rolling in any
direction. The path of all the wheels must be parallel. There are some vehicle
such as fork lift and dump truck, which are steered via their rear wheels. The
front wheels of the vehicle, which are mostly main source of controlling the
car, can be connected by means of a suitable linkage from the steering wheel to
the steering arms on each stub axles. The steering box mounted on the chassis
or frame encloses the mechanical component that transmits the control from the
steering wheel to the drop arm.
Each stub axle has a lever or arm attached to it and
the front axle frame.
1.2 STATEMENT
OF PROBLEM
Due to the hardship during conducting practical
activities on these systems, Both student and the teacher found it difficult to
identify most of the components on teaching and learning of how the steering
system works, Because most of the components are hidden under the vehicle body
and chassis, so this project constructed as teaching aid to help and guide both
student and teacher for easy understanding of the parts and working principle
of all the system practically in physical appearances.
1.3 AIMS
AND OBJECTIVES
1.3.1 AIMS:
the aim of this project is to design and construct an excellent steering system
demonstrator, that provide basic understanding of the system which helps and
ease both the teacher and the student to the knowledge practically
(physically).
1.3.2 OBJECTIVES: the main objectives of this
project are derived from the following consideration:
• To
show how the system works in the vehicle.
• To
identify the working principle of each and every component in the system.
• To
show how component are connected to each other in the system.
• To
provide simplicity in understanding the concept of all the system during
conducting practical activities for both the learner and teacher.
1.4 SCOPE
AND LIMITATION
1.4.1 SCOPE: the scope and the nature of this
project are centered toward the construction of front suspension and steering
systems for practical demonstration that will help the teacher and the student
to get the knowledge physically.
1.4.2
LIMITATION; this project is limited on Steering system.
1.5 METHODOLY;
The method for conducting this project is basically classified into two
✔ Primary
data collection; this involve site visit, conducting case study and related
literature review from existing construction of similar function and uses.
✔ Secondary
data collection; this involve the use of the project construction components
and materials used, working principles, construction process, assembling and
test running.
