CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION


1.1       BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The term motivation was originally derived from Latin, word “motive” which means the main sprays of action in people. The leader who to incite his follower to reach an objective must hold out the promise of rewarding them. An the reward people seek in life is to fulfill their want, drive and need.

Motivation is interested in the “Why” of human behaviours it tries to unravel the rationales behind human behaviours. Although not all human behaviors are motivated, some are no reflex action habit or instruct, a manager is only interested in those behavior that can be motivated when an individual is left with a choice.

Motivation are those things, which induce an individual to perform. It could be tangible (extrinsic) or intangible (intrinsic). A manager can make effort directed toward sharing motivation by establishing an environment conducice top ascertain drive, i.e motivation is something use toward achieving a desired goal e.g. higher pay, a prestigious title, development of employee’s etc. what a manager to perform effectively and efficiently leads to the company folding up due to the goals of the organization being hindered.


1.2       STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS OF THE STUDY

There effectiveness of management depend on its ability to satisfy the needs of its work force.

1.3       AIMS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

These are the purposes, aim and targets which the research project is designed to meet, the fundamental objective of the write is to comply with the partial fulfillment of the requirement for the award of National diploma in business studies of kwara state polytechnic, Ilorin.

The broad topic of the project, which is the motivation as a tools of four improving employee’s performance in a service company, a case study of zenith bank plc.

Firstly, to find out the method of research carried out by the method of research carried out by the zenith bank plc.

It will make workers to be efficient and effective in operation which will result to higher performance.

It also easy to know the technique use in motivating employees (zenith bank staff member for higher performance.


1.4       SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research work is expected to contribute immensely to the recognition of motivation as a tools of improving employees performance in a service companies.

Motivation has become increasingly important for organization and companies of all size that to reach their organization objective in a competitive market place.

Top performance of an organization consistently provide high quality work, maintain a high level of performance.

High level of motivation can help keep employees committed to working hard and contributing as much value as possible to the organization to achieve their goals.


1.5       SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This study looks into perfect fact of motivation as a process of attaining organization objective.

Motivation as a topic that very comprehensive in nature that is why we cannot write everything about it but for the purpose of the study we will concern ourselves about concept with how motivation can be use to attaining organization objective and goals.


1.6       LIMITATION AND CONSTRAINTS TO THE STUDY

The major limitation to this project work is time i.e. time was not enough to carryout the research to its fullness.

Also finance is one of the limitation that was hindering a proper research work and lack of co-operation of some members staff are failing to disclose important that were needed this research project.
