This questionear conducted from October 2023 to December 2023. A total of 110 pregnant women were enrolled in this study. Questionnaire were distributed followed by impact of iron deficiency among pregnant women. A total of 110 women were included in this analysis. The majority age are 25-35 (41%). CHAPTER ONE

1.0   INTRODUCTION

1.1     BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Anaemia during pregnancy has been a global problems and a challenge resulting in geometric increase in maternal mortality within society. It is a disease that is more common in a govern society with low social economic status resulting in poor nutritional infection. women often become anaemia during pregnancy because demand for iron and other vitamins is increased .the mother must increase production of red blood cells and addition of iron, which can only be obtained from the mother in order to have enough red blood cells for the foetus the body starts to produce more red blood cells and plasma (Federal Ministry of Health, 2005).

It has been calculated that the blood volume increased approximately 50% the pregnancy although the plasma amount is disproportionately greater this because dilation of the blood making the hemoglobin as it's lowest between week 25 and 30, the pregnant women may need additional iron supplementation and a blood test called serum territin in the best way of monitoring. there is therefore an urgent need for better and growing awareness among doctors about the problem of anaemia in pregnancy which has been a killer disease for long periods of time it affects health of mother which can easily lead to their death.therw are many medical complication resulting from iron deficiency, anaemia in pregnancy is harmful and poses different kinds of hunger to both mother and foetus. It is characterized by oedema, pallor, swelling of the ankles joint (Federal Ministry of Health, 2008).

Although the problem has been drastically reduced in the developing countries but yet to be tackled in developing and under developing countries due to poverty, illiteracy and lack of adequate equipment and health care facilities in the sector. These results in very poor material service and proper ante natal visit by pregnant mother's. Therefore a good and qualitative medical care can only be achieved when we have a low maternal death in our society (WHO 2002). Anaemia is a common complication in pregnancy is a major tropics, it is usually of the type of anaemia in pregnancy is Major causes of maternal and foetal mortality in Africa and asia (Ojo, 2005).

Globally the prevalence of anaemia among women of reproductive age is about 29.5%,and anaemia impacts about 40% of pregnant women and more than 20% of non pregnant women 14 Sept 2020

The prevalence of anaemia is highest among pregnant women in sub-sahara Africa (57%),followed by pregnant women in South easth asia (48%) and lowest prevalence (24.1%) was reported among women in South America 8 Nov 2018.the department of medical and obstetrics has been alerted by the social and medical complication resulting from anaemia in pregnancy among women of child bearing age this condition was known to be physically and mentally harmful that poses different kinds of dangers to both mother and the foetus (Aderson, 2006).

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Anaemia increase the incidence of maternal mortality rate and maternal morbidity rate ,low hemoglobin carrying oxygen lead to so many complication during pregnancy it lead to foetul hypoxia, intra uterine death, abortion, premature labour with delivery of maceraled foetus, maternal and foetal distress. The anaemia is caused as a result of inadequate diet intake, lack of iron and vitamins supplement and most of affected are women of child bearing age with the above reason, therefore study of pregnant women of child bearing age will be among measure of reduction of some complication during pregnancy (Derwkl, 2006).

Finally, there is no proper health education in most of the hospital, PHC and clinic about the causes of anaemia in pregnancy among women of child bearing age.

1.3   SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The research work on iron deficiency in pregnant is very important because of assist to examine the problem and early sign of condition, especially in first three months of the pregnancy. The following people will benefit from the study:

      *Pregnant women

       *Health worker

*Community

It assist mother's to know the effect of iron deficiency anaemia in pregnant women and the possible complication

The study also improved and update health works knowledge on a anaemia with the causes, type, effect, diagnosis, prevention and all the possible intervention of anaemia and assist them in carrying out the clinical based function such may reduced the maternal mortality rate in the country. It also educate women health agencies and community in general about the changes associated with iron deficiency anaemia in pregnancy and take a possible precaution in prevention of anaemia among women of child bearing age (Brabin et al,. 2001).

1.4   SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

The research work is design to investigate and enquire about case of iron deficiency anaemia in pregnancy in "DUTSE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA DUTSE GENERAL HOSPITAL of Jigawa state of nigeria.the research deals specifically with only those condition of iron deficiency anaemia in pregnancy among women of child bearing age.

1.5   RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The following questions are formulated to guide the study:

1.6   AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

1. To identify risk and reason for anemia in pregnancy among women of child bearing age.

2. To suggest possible way of reducing effect of anaemia in pregnancy among women of child bearing age that can lead to abuse that failure and death.

3. To identify the treatment measure of anemia during pregnancy include: nutritional iron, folate and vitamin B12 deficiency.

4. To access the knowledge of anaemia in pregnancy among women of child bearing age.
