ABSTRACT

An intelligent electronic lock or digital lock is a device which has an electronic control system attached to it, it is  provided with an access control system. This system allows the user to unlock the device with a numeric password. The password is entered by making use of a keypad (switches). The user can also set his password to ensure better protection. To achieve the construction, the major components (units) include the Keypad (switches), the process controller CD4013 and the door switching mechanism.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND

Security is the degree of resistance to, or protection from, harm. It applies to any vulnerable and/or valuable asset, such as a person, community, item, nation, or organization. As noted by the institution for security and open methodologies  institute for security and open methodologies.(ISECOM) in the open sources security testing methodology manual  (OSSTMM) 3,security provides "a form of protection where aspirations is created between the assets and the threat. "These separations are generally called "controls "and sometimes include changes to the asset or the threat.

Security is said to have two dialogues. Negative dialogue is about danger, risk, threat , etc positive dialogue is about opportunities, interest, etc. Negative dialogue needs military equipment, armies, or police. Positive dialogue needs social capital, education, or social interaction.

Home security involves the security hardware in place on a property. and personal security practices. The hardware would be the doors, locks, alarm systems, lighting, motion detectors, security camera systems, etc. that are install Papers  security practices would be ensuring doors are locked, alarms activated, windows closed, extra keys not hidden outside and many other routine tasks which act to prevent a burglary.

Home security can be strengthened by adding a first line of defence like a thorny shrub or bush to give the burglar a hard time. A motion activated bright light can play a psychological role in deterring a burglar,[4]also acting as a second line of defence along with outdoor security cameras. In order to protect the entry points, we need to have window and door sensors. Once a burglar gets past the second line of defence, motion detectors kick in. A motion detector can raise an alarm or send a security footage to the home owner if it's linked to a camera system. Storing valuables like passports, jewelry, important documents, etc. might also be considered a home security precaution. Common security methods include never hiding extra keys outside, never turning off all the lights, applying small closed circuit television (CCTV) stickers on doors, and keeping good tabs with neighbors.

An electronic lock (or electric lock) is a locking device which operates by means of electric current. Electric locks are sometimes stand-alone with an electronic control assembly mounted directly to the lock. Electric locks may be connected to an access control system, the advantages of which include: key control, where keys can be added and removed without re-keying the lock cylinder; fine access control, where time and place are factors; and transaction logging, where activity is recorded. Electronic locks can also be remotely monitored and controlled, both to lock and unlock.

Properties are items that every individual will wish to have, many people are rated by the types of properties they have especially cars or vehicles. However, having properties is another thing and protecting these properties is another problem. There are all sorts of system for protecting properties especially homes.

Furthermore, these days of locking your keys in the house or forgetting to lock the door can be a thing of the past,Once the domain of the wealthy for entry to their multimillion dollar estates, an electronic door lock can now grace your front door for not too much cost. Some electronic locks can open remotely via an application and can integrate with your home automation system for added security and protection, placing them in the category of “smart” technology.

Numerical codes, passwords, and passphrases the most common form of electronic lock uses a keypad to enter a numerical code or password for authentication. Such locks typically provide, and some feature an audible response to each press. Combination lengths are usually between 4 and 6 digits long.

1.2 MOTIVATION

Security is usually a global problem the motive behind this project is to construct a system that will be able to secure properties especially vehicle to scare away thieves. Keyless door locks have become popular among home owners in recent years. Although these locks were originally developed for use in cars with remote entry systems, they have been successfully modified for use in homes as well. There are a number of reasons to consider including a keyless door lock in your home. However, there are also some risks associated with this type of system, so it's important to consider all pros and cons before you install one in your home.

1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES

The aim of constructing this project is to develop a system that will be able to lock and unlock doors using intelligent codes.

The objectives of carrying out this project are:

1.      To construct a code lock circuit that will be able to lock and unlock the car by the user using his/her code lock.

2.      To construct the power latch circuit that will be able to unlock or lock the door depending on the signal received from the code lock circuit as input by the user.

3.      To assemble and test the overall system.

1.4 METHODOLOGY

In constructing this project, the circuit was divided into two part or sub-circuit namely: Code lock circuit, Power latch circuit, Power supply circuit.

The sub-circuit was constructed accurately, and it will depend on the electrical characteristics of individual components.

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

Every business owner strives to keep their employees, assets, and office space as safe as possible. We’ve worked years to build and maintain our businesses, and when you leave, you want to make sure that everything is protected from harm. There are several ways to help increase the security at your business; one of the most effective is to install a monitored security system.

One of the main advantages of a keyless door lock does not need to carry a key. You'll no longer need to worry about losing your key or fidgeting at the door to get it open. It also means that you won't need to store a spare key somewhere on your property, as many homeowners currently do. Because most criminals are used to looking around to find a spare key, eliminating the need for one will help make your home safer.

Another advantage of keyless door locks is that you can provide entry to your home for others at your discretion.

You will not need to make copies of a key or leave keys for dog walkers, housekeepers, or house guests to get in to your home. Rather, you'll simply need to tell those people the proper code in order to gain access

1.6 LIMITATION

The limitation of the project is constructed to have the below following: The vehicles will be protected as long as the doors are not open until the owner uses the unlock codes which are switches S1, S7, S5 and S6.
