ABSTRACT

This research examined the performance of students in the college of science and technology at jigawa state polytechnic the data was collected from file department in the average (GPA) and cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in both their first and final year between 2016 – 2018 academic session.

The research  analyze association between students performance in the course and C.A score and it was found that there is association between C.A  score and exam grade regression analysis was carried out and  the estimated regression equation Ý = βo±β1 was found recommendation were make

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

In this research we assess student performance in experimental design in statistics department one of the popular course among students studying statistics at any from JSP (jigawa state polytechnic) for fail 2016 fail 2017 and 2018 semester the research determine will the associations between the student semester continuous assessment is a collection of at least 2 test administration to student in the form of assignment, attendance, group presentation, seminar, written test among other thing thus it is an integral component  to a student score in any course which include (C.A & semester examination)  event through it is not well establish that examination performance depend often C.A  score but the grade obtainable in any course of study gradble with combination of C.A. & exams is often depend the C.A.  score of any student the research the research therefore, focuses on how a student grade (score) is this course can be estimated or forecasted the straighter of the relationship between C.A.  % exam can also be determine among other thing performance in C.A.  in the course and several performance related factors Including   college and high school GPA  ( grade point averages) introductory course in statistic.

In order to be awarded national diploma in the state of JSP  for example, the general education role requirement in the area mathematical method dictate that the students in JSP (jigawa state polytechnic) show proficiency in two courses at or above the level of collage. Typically, college students in JSP use experimental design as one of the two course to meet those requirement. The relevance of this study lies in the centrality of experimental  design in lower division mathematics.

In this study, we asses students performance in experimental design and compare the same with their academic performance prior to enrolling in the course with the main goal of identifying reliable predictors for success in the course. We analyze data  for all students who enrolled in experimental  in the 2016 fall, 2017 fall and 2018 semester at JSP (jigawa state polytechnic). Aside from identifying the content  areas of experimental design in which students at JSP have done poorly in recent time we analyze performance – related variable including  college GPA  (grade requisile course, such as engineering college of CBMS  (college of business and management studies) college and scores on standardized test often used for placement in to experimental design course including C.A. continue assessment  (maths 221 sta 225 and combined and engineering college of score (English, electric power II circuit theory II combined). Among other thing we perform correlation analysis   between the variable and experimental design course and perform simple linear regression analysis to determine predictors of performance. The result of over study could enhance further development of the experimental design course curriculum at universities and colleges, especially institutions whose admission are similar to those of our institution in a regional comprehensive setting . aside from  equipping advisory with information to make riable placement decision for the beginning .

1.1 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The problem of this study is to  find out if exposure of students to many continuous assessment has significant effect on the final examination more assessment means more motivation and thus better achievement, but sometimes human behaviours may change many assessment may mean more stress on the part of the student. However found out that a substantially high and significant degree of positive relationship between continuous assessment and examination score one of the purpose of this study therefore is to determine whether there exist relationship between continus assessment and examination scores there is the problem correlating continous assessment with actual examination scores for instance  it is not common to find a` student having very high score in continous assessment and extremely  low score in the final examination.

1.2 RESEARCH QUESTION

i. Does the student performance of the design and experimental analysis have a significant differed

ii. Does the student who attained lecture always can increase their performance.

iii. Does the use of student  CA can increase theri performance in JSP.

1.3 HYPOTHESIS

Hi     use of CA for the performance does not decrease their  performance in the JSP.

Hii    using and considering with attending of lecture have no significant effect.

1.4 OBJECTIVE

The aim of the study is to carry a simple regression analysis of students performance on CA score of student in experiment design course among statistics department JSP.

1.5 SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY

The study  sough to provide evidence on effectiveness of the student performance in JSP (jigawa state polytechnic) and increase more performance among the student the result will be to convinced many people among the part of the state with a focus to increase the performance of the students by quater 2016 (JSP 2010) simple regression morderling in student CA performance intervention is a equipment simple regressive analysis provide possible predicting models that may be apply in different cases seenatious to maximize the available resources to achieved designed result it is therefore expected that these models to tackle the student performance.

1.6 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

Some of the student performance file reviewed had some information mission now ever by checking with  their files and books record in their department.

The study is only limited to data obtain from management information system unit on experimental design from (2016 -2018)
