ABSTRACT
The research work
" unemployment as a retarding factor to economic development in Nigeria
using Kaduna State as a case study " the level of unemployment is one of
the threat on government, any nation that is fond of neglecting the situation
of unemployment indirectly such government is a failure or not successful. The
objective of this study is to access into the reasons of unemployment in Kaduna
State to be precise the research population that help to achieve these
objective is four hundred and eighty(480) questionnaire were administered and
one hundred and eighty (180) returned. In other words, majority of the
respondents believe that unemployment is a retarding factor to economic
development in Nigeria with the tendency of causing migration, high rate of social
vices and criminal activities if not control. This study therefore, recommends
urgent intervention of government to educate the people about the
entrepreneurship development study, at various institutions, to reduce the
importation of foreign goods and to encourage our domestic product, so that all
factors of production could be effective.

INTRODUCTION
1.1BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Unemployment is a very dangerous phenomenon to
an industrial economic system. (Bello2003)
stated from time immemorial. The subject of unemployment that always
been an issue of great concern to the economist policy maker and economic
manager alike given the devastating effect of these phenomenon on individuals,
the society and the economic at large.
This earliest thinking on economic issues did
not fail to give a central point of reflection on the undesirability of
unemployment ( Njoku and ihuagba, 2011). Unemployment has been define as a
situation where people who are willing and capable o working are unable to find
suitable paid employment has been define defined as a situation where people Whoare willing and capable of working
are unable to find suitable paid employment ( fajana 2000) the same writer went
further to say that the higher of unemployment in an economy the higher the
level of poverty and associated welfare challenges.
However the number of people in any country is
divided into two groups. The economical active and the economical inactive
According to Njoku and Ihugba 2011, the
economical active group ( labour force) are the group that are willing and able
to work including these activel engage group in the production of goods and
services (employed)and Those who are not
employed on the other hand. The
economical inactive group refers to neither people who are not looking for jobs
nor those who are not capable enough as a result of health related issues.
The menace of unemployment is geometrically
increasing and the effect falls heavily on the economic development , the study
is posed to evaluate the causes, effect an possibly proffer solution and
possibly, proffer the way forward in tackling the problem of unemployment in
Nigeria
1.2. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Unemployment is a great problem associated
with both rural and urban communities of the Nigeria economy it result To the
following problems to Nigeria.
One of
the problem of unemployment in Kaduna State is the cause of migration, that is
rural to urban migration and it constitute problem to development in the
area.
Another basic problem is the
waste of manpower, unemployment especially that of Graduate waste the much
needed manpower which delay the economic development of the nation Nigeria, especially in Kaduna State many
school many school leavers and graduate find it difficult to find a job, the
resources use in training them would have been more profitable in other venture
.
Escalation of crime rate, an
idle mind they say is the devils workshop, and as a result of this many
unemployed youth and able bodies and women engages themselves in crime such as
armed robbery, prostitution etc in order to earn a living

1.4. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The objectives of the study serve as the basis
for the research as the basis of the research. Thus the researcher of this
project work aim at accomplishing the following objective
1. To assess reason for unemployment in Kaduna State
2. To find out the modern put in
place by the government
3. To assess the effect of unemployment in Kaduna State
4. To assess the strategies to rescue economic development
fromunemployment trend in Kaduna State.
1.5 STATEMENT OF HYPOTHESIS
The higher the level of unemployment in Kaduna
State the difficult it becomes to achieve economic development in Kaduna State.
The higher the level of unemployment in Kaduna
State the higher the level of crime committed by unemployed youth in the Local
Government.
1.6 JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY
1.At the end of this research work both
individual and government would benefit substantially in finding possible
solution to the unemployment problem.
2. it will serve as a means of improving economic condition in one
countryespecially in Kaduna State.
3. at the end of this research work it would serve point of reference to
anotherresearcher and student carrying out research on this topic.
4. it will serve as a guide to policy makers.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION
The scope of this study cover the period
between 1998 to 2019 respectively with specific reference to Kaduna State. The
settings and time scope of this research work place some limitations on its
conduct and findings.
The limitations of this study include;
financial constraint, time, contribution and collection of questionnaire from
staffs. The researcher being a student, found it very difficult to meet up with
the stipulated time of this study as academic activities demanded attention as
well, there by taking out of the time of the research work. Also the distribution
and collection of the questionnaire to the staff to some of Kaduna state
indigenes was not an easy task.
1.9 CHAPTER
PRESENTATION
This research work comprises of five basic
chapters.
Chapter one Covers the research topic,
statement of the problems, research questions, objective of the study,
statement of hypothesis, justification of the study, scope and limitation of
the study and conceptual definition of the key variables.
Chapter two Covers literature review,
historical background, conceptual framework, review of related literature,
review of related theories and reference.
Chapter three covers research population
and sampling, validity and reliability of research instrument, method of data
presentation and analysis and method of testing hypothesis.
Chapter four covers presentation and
analysis of data, graph from answers to questionnaire and interview were
presented in tabular form analyzed and
interpreted, also hypothesis were tested
in order to give clear scope.
Chapter five Covers summary
of findings, conclusions and recommendation for the way forward.
