1.0 Executive Summary
The Paints and Coatings Additives Manufacturing
Project is a proposed medium-to-large-scale industrial operation to be
established in Ogun State, Nigeria. The business aims to produce high-quality
additives used by paints, coatings, construction chemicals, printing inks,
adhesives, sealants, plastics, and related manufacturing sectors. The project
aligns with Nigeria’s rapidly expanding construction and manufacturing markets,
which depend heavily on imported additives. Local production will significantly
reduce foreign exchange pressure, shorten supply chains, and improve the
cost-competitiveness of domestic paints and coatings manufacturers.
The company will manufacture essential additives
including dispersants, rheology modifiers, anti-settling agents, defoamers,
wetting agents, biocides/preservatives, coalescing agents, binders,
flow/levelling agents, thickeners, adhesion promoters, and drying catalysts.
Production will rely on globally accepted formulations, standardized SOPs,
automated dosing, and strict QA/QC procedures in accordance with ISO 9001:2015
quality management requirements.
The plant will be located in the industrial
corridor of Ogun State—preferably Agbara, Papalanto, or Sagamu—due to proximity
to Lagos markets, access to skilled labour, road networks, gas pipelines, and
several multinational paint manufacturers. The plant is designed for an initial
installed capacity of 10,000 MT per annum, scalable to 25,000 MT per
annum over five years.
The project will generate approximately 70
direct jobs and over 240 indirect jobs through distributors,
logistics providers, raw-material suppliers, retailers, and service firms.
Market analysis shows a strong demand-supply gap: Nigeria imports over $450
million worth of paint raw materials annually, including a high percentage
of additives. Local manufacturers struggle with long lead times, high costs,
and inconsistent product availability. This project solves these problems by
offering locally produced, high-performance additives at competitive
prices.
The financial projections indicate strong
profitability. At 70% capacity utilisation, Year-1 revenue is estimated at ₦4.2
billion, rising to ₦7.8 billion by Year-5. Net profit margin stabilizes at
18–23% after depreciation and operating costs. Break-even point is projected
within 26–32 months.
The project is technically feasible, economically
viable, and strategically positioned to dominate the West African paints and
coatings additives market.
