ABSTRACT
This study aimed at utilizing tie-dye products for interior decoration in the home. The study specifically ascertained various ways of utilizing tie-dye products for interior decoration in the home. Identified the constraints on the use of tie-dye products for interior decoration in the home, way forward or solution to the constraints. To achieve this, three research questions were formulated for the study. A survey research design was used for the study. A total of 170, 902 people formed the population for the study, out of this, total of 200 respondents were randomly selected. Validated structured questionnaire was the instrument used. Frequencies and percentages were used for data analysis. The findings of the study revealed the highest tie-dye products for interior decoration in the home, were headrest (100%), followed by pillow case (100%) draperies (90%) and frames (82.5%). The least preferred ones were table cover (70%) and armrest (70%). Based on the findings, it was recommended that people should adopt the utility of tie-dye products for interior decoration in the home, because they are more affordable, available and durable unlike the imported ones that are more expensive.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
In
the modern society, interior decoration of the home goes beyond decorating only
with on commonly used flowers and ornamentals in the sitting room, but involves
the entire rooms such as living room, kitchen,bathroom,toilet and bedrooms
using different types of decorative material.
In
planning and designing for interior decoration in the homemust basically
consider the content of quality design for the person and purpose of decoration
(Ford, 2000).The decoration of the interior of home provides a revealing
portrait of its inhabitant.
Interior
decoration in the home is the service to human needs (Alan,2003) the degree by
which it is choose the harmony achieve
by which the whole design will vary in
different homes (Magnaniand Rivista,2000).
The
first element of comfort, conceive, convenience and attempt for beatification
were introduced into dwelling (Ford, 2003).Thus, there is usually the desire to
make the aesthetic pleasures, decorated with items that beautiful as well as entertaining
interior decoration is the dual art of planning and producing interior of
structures on a basic function, comfort, convenience and aesthetic appeal (Ford,
2000).The professional interior designer and decoration through training and experienceplans
design and decorates materials which are used for the furnishing of interior,
homes, houses, commercial institutional structures, hotels clubs, theaters, restaurants
and other public places (Alan, 2001).Interior decoration is a multifaceted profession
that includes conceptualdevelopment, communicating with the stakeholders of a
project, the management and execution of the design techniques on fabric are
mostly the items used to ignite beauty and excitement in the interiors of the
home (Cullen,2002).Dyes offer us beauty and chance for self- expression
(griffin 2012).
Dyes
aresubstances that are used in applying color to yarn or fabric. Dyes are in
the form of powders orliquid, some can be dissolved in hot water while others
dissolves in cold water should be in solution before use. Dye is a soluble colored
substance that has an affinity for a fiber or to the surface (in contrast, a
pigment is insoluble and usually has no affinity). Dye can be made from plants,
animals, and mineral substances (Anyakoha and Eluwa 2010).
Also
pattering of tie-dye fabric was done in so many ways namely, sewing,tying,
knotting, folding, pleating, intention with stone sticks, threads with needle tightento
prevent the penetration of dye (Alan, 2003).
Tie-dye
is a resist method of pattering fabric that is achieved by preventing dye
liquor from penetrating all parts of the fabric (Oguntona, 2000). Tie-dye
gained popularity in Nigeria during the
great depression, when it was considered an economical way to add new color to old
material pamphlet where handed out describing how to tie-dye and use old cotton
flour coffee, and sugar sacks to create new clothing and home decoration (Moris,2009).
Interior
decoration in the home using tie-dye products is very affordable, attractive, durable,
and manageable, the design, colors and their materials used in tie-dye products
is a high quality products. Therefore, tie-dye products were seen as economy
boost when given adequate attention.Interior decoration and home furnishing using
tie-dye products if properly managed reduces unemployment in Nigeria.
Moreover
in interior decoration in the home a lot has been introduced and used to
beautify the interior section of the home like flowers, using plastics,
ceramic, beads, woods etc.Also some ornaments that are hang in the homes using
different materials, as well as the different draperiesused for beautification,
but this study looked into utilization of tie-dye productsto beautify different
section of the homes. Examples, making
of headrest, Arm rest, cushion cover, table cover, frames etc., and this are
done to create something different from the conventional design we have as a
contrast to what has been on ground.
1.2
Statement
of the Problems
Despite
the various ways and ideas of utilizing tie-dye products for interior decoration
in the home, yet they are not so much appreciated and patronized by people.Socio-economic
and cultural development efforts made to sensitize Nigeria towards harnessing
the untapped potentials of local products particularly in fabric dyeing is yet
to be accomplished. Some studies already have attempted solving the problem,
yet the gap is still there.
For
this reason, there are needs to tap the potentials of local products such as
our locally made interior ornaments especiallyon fabric dyeing as a means of finding
a suitable replacement of foreign made ornaments that are expensive and also
not as durable as our local products for interior decorations in the home.
1.3. Objectives of the Study
The
general objective is to utilized tie-dye products for interior decoration in
the home.
Specifically,
this study;

Ascertainedvarious ways
of utilizing tie-dye products for interior decoration in the home.

Identifiedthe constraints
on the use of tie-dye products for interior decoration in the home.
iii.
Way forward or solutions
to the constraints on the use of tie-dye products for interior decoration in
the home.

of the Study
The
following groups will benefit from the study.Individuals, families and society
at large.
· Individuals:Individuals
will come to understand thevarious ways of utilizing tie-dye products for
interior decoration in the home. To achieve this awareness like seminar,
workshop should be created through the means of organizing workshops, seminar
etc.
· Families:This
study will be of immense importance to families, as it will help them to understand
and know the constraint on the use of tie-dye products for interior decoration
in the home.For families to benefit this, they must be educated through means
of media.
· Society At Large:
This study will also be of importanceto society, as it will help them toknow
the way forward or solutions to the constraints on the use of tie-dye products
for interiordecoration in the home. To have the knowledge of this, awareness
like conference, should be made and also through the means of newspaper and publications
etc.

Scope of the Study
This study is limited to finding out the utilization
of tie-dye product for interior decoration in the home. The study also
identified the various ways of utilizing tie-dye products for interior
decoration in the home, the constraints on the use of tie-dye products for
interior decoration in the home,way forward or solution to the constraints on
the use of tie-dye products for interior decoration in the home. Responses to
the instrument were restricted only to homes in Ahiazu mbaise local governmentarea
of Imo state, Nigeria.
