Introduction
An
online cinema ticket booking system allows users to browse movie showtimes,
select seats, and purchase tickets conveniently from any device, providing a convenient
and efficient way for moviegoers to secure their tickets without having to
visit the cinema in person. Here are the key features and benefits of such a
system. This system streamlines the booking process, enhances user experience, and
increases operational efficiency for cinemas. It is made to provide customers
with an anywhere and anytime service for booking seats in a cinema hall and
having information about the movie online. The user can easily know about the
movies released and then make a choice.
It
is a web-based system that allows customers to buy tickets online and cancel
their seats at a suitable time (ranging from 2 days before the show to 1 hour
before the show). To enhance the refund function, all customers have to
register to become members before buying the ticket. Staff can use the system
to insert and delete data (for example, film description, timetable), which
will update the webpage. Also, staff can check the statistical information from
the system.
Traditionally,
purchasing movie tickets involved physically visiting the cinema, often
resulting in long queues and potential disappointment due to sold-out shows.
The advent of the internet introduced a more efficient method, allowing users
to browse movie showtimes, select seats, and make payments online. The system
is to provide an alternate and convenient way for a customer to buy a movie
ticket. It is an automated system. After the data has been fed into the
database, the staff does not need to do anything with the order once it is
received through the system.
The
name “movie” originates from the fact that photographic film (also called film
stock) has historically been the medium for recording and displaying motion
pictures. Many other terms exist from an individual motion picture, including
picture, picture show, moving picture, photoplay, and flick.
1.1 Statement of the problem
The
major problem faced by the existing system, which is carried out manually,
includes:
· Poor
record storage and subsequent loss of files
· Absence
of a secure database system used in the storage process of seat reservation
· Duplicate
entry of data
· Unauthorized
access to seat reservation records
1.2 Aim and objective of the study
The
main aim of this study is to develop an online movie ticket reservation system.
This system will achieve the following objectives:
· To
design a system that keeps track of all registered customers for the movie
ticket
· To
create a system that helps reduce the high level of unauthorized access to
movie records/information
· To
increase the profit and obtain statistical information from the booking record
· To
design a system that provides an anytime, anywhere service for customers to
book their movie tickets
· To
create a reliable database storage mechanism for all reservations made
1.3 Significance of the study
This
research project will be unnecessary if it does not have significance to
humanity.
·
The newly designed system is faster and
more convenient for customers booking movie tickets
·
Online ticket reservation is always a safe
option unless the website is insecure
·
It saves a lot of money in printing costs
because the company does not need to printout tickets to give to customers,
which get binned after the film anyway
·
It also saves a lot of time for the
customers because they do not need to arrive early to queue for tickets in case
they are all sold out.
1.4 Scope of the study
This
research is restricted to the implementation of an online ticket reservation
system. Data used for the study were gathered from SilverBird, Eket, as
the case study.

1.5 Organization of the research
The
research project has been arranged in the following order; chapter one contains
the introduction, theoretical background, significance of the study,
organization of the research, scope of the study, limitation of the study, and
definition of terms. Chapter two focused on the relevant literature review,
highlighting basic concepts. Chapter three is concerned with the system
analysis and design. Chapter four is the system implementation as
documentation. Chapter five summarizes and concludes the research work,
offering some useful recommendations.
1.6 Definition of terms
To
do away with Ambiguity, some terms and keywords in the context of this research
are defined here by definition.
i.
Implementation:
the
building of a system and installation to ensure that it solves a particular
task.
ii.
System:
a combination of related parts into a complex whole.
iii.
Database:
it
is a collection of interrelated data stored together with controlled redundancy
to serve one or more applications, optionally.
iv.
Reservation:
is
the act of reserving something, e.g., hotel accommodation, a seat on an
airplane, or in a theatre.
v.
Ticket:
a piece of paper, cardboard, etc, showing that the holder is entitled to
certain rights, such as train or bus, entry to a public place.
