ABSTRACT
Since we are having a vibrant mobile
phone market in the country and with this market focusing in Lagos, Abuja and
Porthacourt, the research project seeks to create an online warehouse that
combines the function of distribution, transportation and sales into one
functional platform thereby making mobile phones available to anybody, anywhere
and any corner of the nation.
The primary goal of this study is to
design and implement an online warehouse/store that will serve the distribution
of phones.
This project deals with developing an
online warehouse for phones. It provides the users with a catalogue of
difference phones available for purchase in the warehouse. In other to
facilitate online purchase a shopping cart is provided for the user. The system
is implemented using PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) script and HTML (Hypertext
Markup Language) for the web design and MYSQL as the database.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Warehouses
are place of storage of goods until the consumer want them. But gradually with
the improvement of transportation and communication people can now go directly
to the manufacturer to get goods. The manufacturer are gradually taking away
the roles of the middlemen but still some problem do exist such as trying to
bridge the gap between the consumer and manufacturer as in the case of distance,
timing, delivery etc.
But with
the advent of the internet a new use as being discovered for the warehouse a
use that bridges manufacturing, distribution and sales bringing the three platforms
together on a single encapsulating platform namely the INTERNET.
The
internet has given birth to the specialized warehouses which are called online
stores. Example of well specialized warehouses cum stores includes eBay, Amazon,
Banana republic etc.
For the
case of study, it is noted that some product with ranging diversity do not have
specialized stores such as mobile phones. Practically everybody uses a mobile
phone because of its so many advantages such as it cut communication expenses,
transportation cost and many iminet advantages. With more than fifty million
lines in use in Nigeria alone we can as well say Nigeria has a vibrant mobile
phone market so having online warehouse makes a valid economic sense that deals
specifically on mobile phones.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Since
there is a vibrant mobile phone market in the country and with this market
focus in Lagos, Abuja and Porthacourt. The research project seeks to create an
online warehouse that combines the function of distribution, transportation and
sales with one functional platform thereby making mobile phones available to
anybody, anytime, and at any corner of the nation.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The main
aim of the study is to design and implement an online warehouse that will serve
the distribution of phone for anybody, anywhere in the country.
The
objectives include:
1.
To
eliminate inconveniency generally suffered by the customer
2.
To reduce
transportation cost
3.
Prompt
delivery of goods
4.
To meet standard
and environment friendliness

is meant to design and implement an online warehouse with particular reference
to a phone warehouse.
The
project would be useful to all manufacturers that deals in the sales of phones,
not only will it be of benefit to the manufacturer it will also be of benefit
for other researches in the future for references purposes.
1.5 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

research project covers the design and the implementation of a simple online
warehouse/store site. It deals only in prices of popular and establish phone
brands in Nigeria it doesn’t really highlight the individual features or pictures
of the phones. It can also classify the phone base on their main
characteristics or features. The project also tries to create a payment system
