The objective and aim of this
dissertation is to examine "The impart of environment on the
motivation of staff in an organization (A case study of Bende Local Government
Area of Abia State). This
study was designed to find out if or whether office environment has any effects on the motivation of staff in
Bende Local Government. In carrying out the
investigation some research
questionnaire to the staff of the organization where the investigation has carried out. The responses were
supplied by the respondents and they
are analysed using simple percentages and chi-square for which conclusion were made on the basis of the findings.

1.0
INTRODUCTION
Environment entail the total
surrounding of an organization the need to motivate workers in an economy like
ours is the concern of managers of both private and public
establishment.
There is need for managers to
understand and accommodate various people that work in the organization for the
purpose of increasing productivity
and for them to induce personnel to do their job.
In' view of this, the research
study series as a key of unlocking potential in Bendel local government area,
the organization is bogged down with two may operational challenges and the
effectiveness through this study by evaluating their skill and experience in
making the organization to develop more efficiency role to affect better
salaries.
This study revolves around the
impact of the environment on the motivation of staff in an
organization.
1.1
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The efficiency of office employee
is directly or indirectly affected by the condition under which they
are required to do their work which affect the performance of staff and the
achievement of organization objectives. For this purpose this study will
focus its attention on the impact of environment on motivation
of staff in public organization.
According to oxford Advance
Learners Dictionary An organization could be defined as a group f
people who form a business, club etc. together in order
to achieve a particular aim; to work for a business/ political/ voluntary
organization.
Egbe T.E.and Rita Ejiofor [1987 p.255] defined
organization as a place were clerical
activities take place "to put it succinctly, such service of the organization
nay include clerical secretarial, Accounting and research duties. There are
vital services that complement or facilitate the work of the executives in an
organization. Organization reflects the company's wealth, it's value and it's attitudes, for visitors and staffs it is the company's handful image and it provides the stage
on which the more static element of
the company perform for their customers, staff and community Above all organization
is designed to stimulate environment that
encourage creativity.
Therefore, one cannot define organization without
the knowledge of its environment. The
organizational environment is a business community where socio-economic or business activities are
performed with a view to achieve organizational goals. It
should be know that every business system lies within our
environment in enhancing work motivation and job satisfaction is necessary in
every organization consequently management should look forward
into work motivation and conducive environment as antidote for
enhancing productively and influences the amount of work interest and
happiness of staffs.
The organization environment are
consist of office building, furniture and layout, lighting, air condition,
ventilation, colour conditioning or decoration sound condition,
physical conditioning or physical conditioning in which staffs
operate under a safely measures and so on.
1.2 STATEMENT
OF THE PROBLEM
It
is the fact that human beings are one important resource available to the organization
and prone to pressure influences such as noise, poor lighting
and unsuitable work tool as this always create dis-comfort in the work place
and tend to urge the employees to seek more suitable conditions
outside the work station. These conditions, which are harmful to their
health and moral, result in physical and mental fatigue in order words, it
results in inefficiency. The general working environment of most Nigeria
organization with particular reference to Bendel local government is
subjected to utter neglects.
1] The organization environment looks very
useful stimulating to the eyes.
2] The staff or employees have a negative
attitude towards their jobs that is inadequate responsibility.
High rate of absenteeism and discipline.
3] Also, the flow of communication between
staff and management is inadequate.
4] Staff welfare is not taken care of or
payment is nothing to write about comparing it with economic
condition of the country.
Looking at these problems one
will quickly notice that staff rate of production and
organizational hazzard that night cause injury or death of environment that will greatly motivate the staffs
to increase their productivity.
1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
1] To find the effect of environment in the
productivity of staff
2] To determine the impact of salary
structure on the performance of staffs.
3] To find
the impact of inadequate organization, furniture and fitting, modern
machines in the performance of staff in bends local government area of
Abia state.
1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS
It
is the intention of the research to answer the following:
i] What is the effect of poor office
environment in the productivity of staff?
ii] What is the effect of inadequate office
furniture?
iii] What
are the effects of negative attitude of management towards staff welfare?
1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The
significance of the study is to:
[1] Highlight the
impact of environment on motivation of staff in public organization with the view of identifying specific area of deficiency to
be modified in order to meet the
requirement of the modern day organization.
[2] To private staff with facilities to enable
them to work towards the achievement
of organizational goals.
[3] The study will also help to improve staff
morale and their condition of sciences.
1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The study is aimed at examining
the impact of environment on the motivation, of the motivation of
staff in an organization.
A case study
of Bendel local government area, Abia
state.
1.7 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The inability of the researcher to gather more literature for
information. Really hampered
data collection for the study. Also,
most respondents found it difficult to accept the questionnaire from the
researcher also constituted a problem in the
collection of data necessary for the study.
Funds
to finance this research study was another major constraint and time is
equally worthy to mention because of academic studies.
