ABSTRACT
The production of quality jobs and services rendered by
different organisations has embraced the advent of computer system in all works
of life and has brought about a dramatic change in the processing speed and
accuracy of information. A system is a collection of concept resources and
procedures intend to perform an indefinable function or serve a goal. Student’s
grading system is a process by which results are processed through the use of resources
e.g. people, energy, material, time etc. Besides, students’ grading system can
be defined as a system by which students’ results or grade is processed through
the use of resources.
The project involves record keeping of students’ grade and
Microsoft Access engine with visual basic 6.0 were used as the code source.

CHAPTER ONE
1.1
INTRODUCTION TO AUTOMATED SYSTEM GRADING SYSTEM (ASGS)
Computer as an expert system is now being used in diverse
fields ranging from engineering, science, research, medicine, metallurgy,
architecture, agricultural as well as Educational Sector. This pattern is due
to the technological world that is constantly changing everyday. Having a
foreknowledge of the computer and knowing how to operate it, by just anybody
(layman) has been so simplified in the sense that one does not need to attend a
computer school before knowing how to operate the system. Given a well-documented
computer package, one can confidently study and be able to operate the system.
In result processing, computers
are very essential because of its accuracy and speed. It is also essential for
decision making, when supplied accurate data otherwise it will it perform a
GIGO (Garbage-in-garbage-out) kind of operation i.e. to say it is what
information the system is given that the system operate with. Therefore, a
student‘s Result Processing System can be defined as a system by which
student’s results are processed through the use of resources (materials, human
e.t.c.)
1.2
COMPUTER APPLICATION
Computer application has a positive effect on the various
Institutions either at the lower or higher levels, by providing information
within short pace of time. The application areas of computer in our society are
so large that there is hardly any profession, establishment or an organisation
that will not realize the use of computer in one or two submits that make up. A
lot of these organizations either employ to speed up repetitive task or to
support the decision making in the day-to-day running of the organisation. Some
features offered by the computer are rare to find in any single device or
machine, apart from computer itself. Features such as processing, speed,
accuracy, precision and flexibility makes the computer indispensable and a
necessary device to embrace so as to push up the output of any organisation.
Computers are of vital importance because of the basic features it employs in
terms of its speed, accuracy e.t.c. They are put in diverse use as stated
below:
1.
In scientific,
Engineering and Research Application
2.
Commercial Application
3.
Decision making
1.2.1
Scientific, Engineering and Research
Application
This covers the use of computers
foe complex calculations, design, and analysis, control of physical systems and
analysis of experimental data or result
1.2.2 Commercial application
This entails the use of the computer for clerical
administrative and business uses, in private and public application i.e in data
processing.
1.2.3 Decision Making
Decision-making is one of the
vital functions of the computer system. This entails getting information and
producing a result. The computer operates a GIGO function. It only assists the
user in making decision. Decision –making could be employed in every works of
life including professional fields such as:
Ø
Education
Ø
Law
Ø
Government
Ø
Medicine
Ø
Agriculture

THE NEED FOR COMPUTERIZATION
What would the world have been
without computer? Definitely, man will still be living; except that there is a
strong possibility that third world will offer than its manual counterpart. Its
flexibility alone cannot be over-emphasized not to talk of its timeless. The
following are some of the reasons why computer should be used in automated
result processing:
i. Computer
provides easy access to the information about students by storing all the
information about students in a class in storage device.
ii.
Computer has a high
degree of accuracy; this definitely cannot be a guarantee in a manual
process.
1.4
METHODOLOGY
The methodology involves record
keeping of students grade been realized using, a Microsoft Access engine with
visual basic 6.0 as language development tools for the project.
The following methods of data
collection were used in information gathering stage of the project.
i.
Interviews
Interview directed at members of
staff of school of technology, computer technology department was conducted. It
is a form of research methodology and
its purpose is to get information in each class, the way result are processed
e.t.c
ii.
Literature
This involves the materials to
be consulted in view of the project. The school handbook manual given to the
students as guide to their activities is also a source of information to this
project.
1.5 AIMS AND
OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of this
study are as stated below:
i.
To facilitate easy
retrieval and access to records
ii.
Provisions of reliable
results for each semester to every students.
iii.
To Improve
timelessness of students’ result and ensure accuracy of students’ records.
iv.
To Safeguard student
result and keep them away from unauthorized person(s)
