ABSTRACT

Computers over the years have been considered to be powerful tools that enable users to store and process large amounts of data very quickly.

Practically every business, no matter how small, needs computer to handle operations ranging from bookkeeping, track inventory and storage of documents.

The development and future of any organization lies not only in her capital and manpower but also in the manner and how it is managed for proper decision making. As a result of this fact, the need to automate any manual operation is a prerequisite to accomplish their goal.

This project work will take the case of a super-market system for illustration. The objective of this work is to design a computer-based application that will be able to do the following:

·                    Keep track of the market stock.

·                    It will keep track of the goods bought in.

·                    It will keep track of the goods sold-out.

·                    It will notify the management of low stock.

·         It will keep tracks of the dealer’s name, address and their goods.

The benefits of this project work cannot be taken for granted especially in today’s world of computer. Some of which are as follows:

·                    It enables quick decision making.

·                    It produces accurate record and documentation.

·                    It ease and fasten the operation of the super-market.

Conclusively, if automating a manual operation is vital, then it is an inexpensive investment for the success of its operation.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0       INTRODUCTION

Computer have revolutionized and revitalized our society today. This is justified due to the many problems it has relieved workers of different fields. Early computers were built and used primarily to solve mathematical problems, but development in the world of computer technology open up new areas of work in which the increase speed and reliability of computers proved useful. Every stage in computer development shows a significant reduction in the size and cost of a system, while there is a substantial increase in the accuracy, speed and application.

Before the advent of computers, task were being done manually and were prone to errors but with the introduction of computers, task were made simple with little or no error depending on the human operator.

Due to rapid development of computer technology, departmental store and supermarkets are making use of computer based on automated system to process the sales, order, delivery and auditing of goods.

1.1       PROBLEMS DEFINITION

The management and staff of AMPMOD PC Supermarket perform their operation manually on a day –to-day basis, and they are often confronted with the following problems:

·                    Poor recording of goods ordered by individual customers leading to shortage in organisations profit.

·                    The procedure of recording and auditing stock are prone to error and time wasting.

·                    There is no standard security for daily sales recorded on plain sheet with no definite format.

·                    Shortage of goods in stock often discovered when an order is being made up, this is because there is no automated re-order level.

·                    Dubious sales representative can easily manipulate figure and dupe the company.

Now, with the introduction of a new computerized transaction system, it is strongly believed that the improved system would eliminate most of the problems being face by the present system.

1.2       GOAL OF STUDY

The purpose of the project is to provide the following benefits.

Improved information flow and retrieval by means of on-line direct accesses enquiry system.

·                    Greater degree of system integration on the basis that the output of one part of a system (sub-system) provide the input to a related sub-system which has the effect of eliminating duplication and delay.

·                    Delays and inaccuracy in stock recording are eliminated by checking of items file to access the availability on customer’s demand.

·                    Provides a quick update of stock level as sales occurs on individual product.

·                    Provides an update of sold items

1.3   SCOPE OF STUDY

The proposed system will lower the number of staff in the sales section, stock control, keep customer’s record, perform auto-update of stock and generate invoice.

 1.4   DEFINITION OF TERMS

·                    Order: A request by a customer for a company to supply goods or that which he/she is physically around to pay for and then carry the goods immediately.

·                    Delivery: This is the act or process of bringing goods to the customer or place they have been sent to. This module allows the AMPMOD PC Supermarket herself to bring in more goods in order to update their stock.

·                    Audit: This is an official examination of company’s financial rerecord in order to check that they are correct.

·                    Re-Order Level: This refers to the number or quantity of goods that must be the lowest in stock before the company order for another. Through the use of an optimum re-order level, the proposed system will save the company (AMPMOD PC ACCESSORIES AND SUPERMARKET SYSTEM) from low stock or insufficient number of goods in stock when a customer order for such.

·                    Password: This refers to a secret group of letters or number that must be put or supply into the computer as an authorized personnel before he or she can use this software.
